The contribution of KTM in the overall sales for Bajaj Auto was significant last month as more than 6,000 units were sold

KTM’s success story under the reign of Bajaj Auto is there for the world automotive industry to see and it has contributed in significant premium bike sales for its owner domestically as well as abroad where the brand holds great value. The Austrian manufacturer has already updated its models to comply with BSVI emission standards.

Last month, the heavily upgraded Duke 200 was the most sold motorcycle within the company’s local portfolio. It posted a total of 2,900 units as against 2,053 units during the same month last year with 41 per cent sales increase. Priced at Rs. 1.72 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi), the Duke 200 is finally in line with its bigger 250 and 390 naked siblings in styling courtesy of the 2020 MY updates.

The Duke 390 along with the numbers of its 390 siblings stood second with a massive sales growth of 421 per cent as 1,505 units were recorded against just 289 units during the corresponding period in 2019. The 2020 KTM Duke 390 costs Rs. 2.52 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and is powered by a 373.2 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC engine producing 43 hp and 37 Nm.

The Duke 125 managed to register 1,476 units in February 2020 as against 3,014 units during the same month in 2019 with YoY decline of 51 per cent. The 2020 version of the entry-level naked streetfighter costs Rs. 1.38 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi) and is just over Rs. 5,500 more expensive than its predecessor.

The Duke 250 slots in between the Duke 200 and Duke 390 and it currently costs around Rs. 2 lakh (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Last month, it posted 589 cumulative domestic unit sales as against 343 units during February 2019 with 72 per cent volume increase. KTM’s subsidiary Husqvarna that recently debuted in India had tallied up 163 units.

KTM also sells the 790 Duke in India but it has not been updated to meet BSVI regulations. The 390 Adventure sits at the top of the 390 range with its dual-purpose adventure characteristics. Priced at Rs. 2.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it comes loaded with features and rivals BMW G310 GS and Kawasaki Versys-X 300.
